Bi-Axial or Axial Average Extensometer Model 3560
A single integrated unit provides simultaneous lateral (transverse) strain measurement and averaged axial strain measurement. The unit is also available as an averaged axial-only extensometer. This extensometer is ideal for testing anisotropic materials such as advanced composites, as well as for general-purpose testing like determining Poisson’s ratio.
.
The first version, Model 3560BIA, uses a unique Epsilon design in which the knife edges remain parallel during displacement. This approach greatly reduces cross-axis interference and allows for easy use on both round and flat specimens.
.
These extensometers are very easy to mount.
-
Integrated springs hold the unit securely on the test specimen.
The parallel multi-flexure design makes these units highly durable. -
The Model 3560AVG reads only axial strain as a single averaged output. It can also be supplied with two independent outputs, one measuring each side of the specimen. This configuration is commonly used when a specific indication of specimen bending is required.
.
The second version, Model 3560BIA, includes both averaged axial strain and transverse strain. It can also be configured with two independent axial readings, resulting in a three-channel extensometer.
-
Model 3560 extensometers are strain-gage devices compatible with any electronics designed for strain gauge transducers. They are frequently connected to a testing machine controller.
-
Signal conditioning electronics for the extensometer are typically included with the testing machine controller or can be added. In such cases, the extensometer is supplied with the appropriate connector and wiring for direct integration with the electronics.
-
For systems lacking the necessary electronics, Epsilon can provide a variety of solutions, allowing the extensometer output to be connected to data acquisition boards, chart recorders, or other equipment.
